About My Art

The majority of my artwork is created using colored pencils although at times I work in soft pastels. Colored pencil is a fascinating medium because when applied it can be a simple line drawing, or have the appearance of transparency like a watercolor, or resemble an oil painting. The painterly style distinguished by an intensity of color and clearly defined clean lines is my preferred approach even though it takes hours to develop the deeply toned colors.

I was initially drawn to landscape and botanical images and used a vast collection of photos from my own horticultural experiences and from national and international travel as inspiration. Soon I found that engaging my own imagination was more exhilarating so I have created abstract works which feel more purposeful and allows for greater personal expression. In my abstract art I often use organic shapes and fluid forms to generate rhythm throughout a piece.
